About Us:

In Mary’s Name is a non-profit organization founded by Chante Thompson in honor of her beloved mother.

Mary Lou Thompson, sadly, succumbed to breast cancer on April, 12th of 2005. As expected, this devastated Chante and truly left her life in a state of intense sadness with feelings of shock and numbness. Instead of allowing grief to defeat her, Chante found the strength and determination to inspire herself. She decided to dedicate her life to helping other women, particularly those in underserved communities, receive the care and support they need during breast cancer treatment and survivorship.

Our Mission is to empower, educate, encourage, improve, promote, and provide healthcare to women in marginalized communities. Addressing their unique challenges and needs through various initiatives. We strive to create positive change and ensure that all women have access to the resources they require to thrive.

Chante started by first focusing on the lack of awareness and access in marginalized communities and through In Mary’s Name she created the remarkable initiative which became a movement called:

"Got Breasts? Get A Mammogram!" This initiative provides free mammograms to women in urban communities which are disproportionately affected by this disease. For details on this event please feel free to click here.

Additionally, In Mary’s Name creates and distributes chemotherapy comfort bags for those battling cancer, offering them some comfort and care during their treatment. The bags are filled with items such as Activity Books, Pens, Coloring books, Coloring pencils, Journals, Lip Balm, Antibacterial Wipes, Lotion and other comfort essentials that help ease the stress and difficulties of chemotherapy treatment.

During the Got Breasts Get A Mammogram screening events women from marginalized communities have come out to get either screened or have received critical information and medical advice from qualified Fox Chase personnel.

Our Initiatives

One of our flagship initiatives is the Period Kit Project, launched to provide essential feminine hygiene products to school-aged women who face financial barriers. We believe that every young woman deserves the opportunity to participate fully in her education and life experiences without the stigma or challenges posed by a lack of access to these basic necessities. Chante’s commitment to this cause is deeply personal, and she is dedicated to carrying on the legacy her mother would be proud of. With love and grace, In Mary’s Name is poised to make a significant impact in the community.

Future Plans

As we look to the future, we are excited to announce several upcoming initiatives designed to support women and families facing health challenges.

  •
  • Mobile Mammogram Unit
A major goal in our pipeline is to secure a mobile mammogram unit that will be fully owned and managed by In Mary’s Name, ensuring that women have convenient access to vital health screenings.
  •
  • Flowers From Mary
This program will provide beautiful floral arrangements to patients,  cancer survivors, and caregivers bringing a touch of joy and comfort during their journey.
  •
  • Support Groups
We will soon launch online and in-person support groups for patients and caregivers. These groups will offer emotional support, as well as practical services such as transportation and meal preparation.

Join us as we continue to build a legacy of love, support, and empowerment for women in our communities. Together, we can make a difference.
